Welcome to HiNeighbors!

Background:  HiNeighbors (short for Harbour Island Neighbors) include residential and commercial members island-wide who enjoy participating in social, cultural, educational, and community service activities.

Since 1999, residential and commercial neighbors on Harbour Island have partnered to sponsor a variety of “HiNeighbors” activities.  Past successes have included luncheons, lectures, book clubs, bridge, cooking classes, monthly socials, and wellness programs. All of the above and more are planned for the future.  On the website, click on the Harbour Island Events Calendar link under News and Calendars to view up coming events.

History: How did HiNeighbors get started?  Almost a decade ago, longtime Tampa and Harbour Island resident, Traci Burns, invited a few of her neighbors to lunch for the first planning committee meeting.  The group quickly realized that many neighborhood activities such as bridge games and book clubs were already underway in separate Harbour Island communities, but no one knew about each other’s events or how to connect.  “HiNeighbors,” as they called themselves, seized the opportunity to share information and create community connections by publishing a calendar of neighborhood activities and planning new opportunities to celebrate life on Harbour Island.

Structure:  HiNeighbors participants come from all three Harbour Island neighborhood associations: the Piazza Association, North Neighborhood Association, and South Neighborhood Association.  HiNeighbors is loosely organized around the following principles: HiNeighbors include those who “live, work, and play” on Harbour Island. HiNeighbors has no budget.  Every event/activity should pay for itself via admission charge, donation, or endowment.  HiNeighbors works “for” not “against” a variety of interest areas (i.e., social, health, education, community service). A team approach rather than a board room hierarchy seems to work well in organizing activities.  You have a good idea. Gather supporters. Make it happen.

Get Involved: If you would like to become a planning committee member, receive a calendar about ongoing and upcoming events, add your ongoing island activities, or if you would just like to get involved in your community and the many activities available on Harbour Island, please take the first step and send an email to    .  A member of the HiNeighbors team will be in touch.
