History of Harbour Island Security:
One of Harbour Island's biggest selling points has been and continues to be the fine security behind the residential gates. Originally the security force was employed by the developer, Beneficial Corporation, and many residents came to appreciate the courtesy and service they provided.
In 1996, that work was outsourced to a third party company, who provided security services for many years. The Harbour Island Community Services Association (HICSA) managed the security force at that time, employing 24 hour security at two residential gates located on South Harbour Island Boulevard (gate 1) and South Beneficial Drive (gate 2).
In 2002, many of the master association (HICSA) responsibilities were delegated to the newly formed neighborhood service districts. The majority of the security responsibilities fell to the South Neighborhood Association to maintain the system and continue to supply the benefits of a controled access environment for our residents.
Our current Security Operations Manager is Richard Sloggett. Richard is a retired Tampa law enforcement officer where he served the Tampa community for 26 years. The position is an important one, as he is on call 24/7 and manages the security contract with a third party and serves as lead interface between contractors and residents within the South NSD.
The South Neighborhood Security Office can be reached Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4:30PM. Richard Sloggett can be reached care at (813) 209-9300, x 516. Should you need to contact the Security gates, the West gate (S. Harbour Island Blvd., Gate 1) number is (813) 307-9808, and the East gate (S. Beneficial Drive, Gate 2) is (813) 307-9609.
