CURRENT WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR THE TAMPA BAY AREA:

For the most up to date weather forecast for Tampa Bay area specifically, we suggest the NOAA - National Weather Service - Tampa Bay weather page or the Tampa Bay Net Weather Page.  For storm specific information, we suggest the NOAA - Tropical Prediction page.  For National Weather forecasting, we suggest the NOAA - National Weather Service - National page.

For a current look at the Tampa Bay Area radar, we suggest the NOAA - Tampa Bay radar page, or for national, you might look at the NOAA - National Weather Service - National Weather page where you can click on most doppler radars in the country.  Or to get the Gulf of Mexico satellite imagery directly from the GOES satellite, updated every three hours.  A view of the entire nation via satellite can be viewed directly from the Nationwide Composite Goes satellite imagery, updated also every three hours.

For emergency listening via weather radio, consult the NOAA - Weather radio page.  For information on where to purchase a weather radio, go to the NOAA weather radio consumer information page

HURRICANE BASIC INFORMATION:

For more information on what a hurricane is, how it forms, and the threat to you, we suggest you consult the Hurricane Basics page.  The primary dangers of a hurricane are the Storm Surge, Marine Hazards, Tornadoes, High Winds, and Inland Flooding.

For a clarification on storm intensities, we suggest that you consult the Saffir Simpson page.

For other weather safety tips, go to the weather safety tips page for NOAA.

STORM PREPARATION:

Two good resources to help you prepare for a storm are the Storm Preparations page and the Act Now page that shows you step by step how to prepare for an approaching storm.  If you are disabled and need to register with the county, the special needs evacuation form will need to be filled out and submitted to Hillsborough County.  For the most up to date advisories and preparation in the Tampa Bay area, the Hillsborough County Emergency page should be consulted.

For a list of items to purchase to be prepared for a storm, we suggest you consult the disaster supply kit page.

HOME PREPARATION:
For information on preparing your home for a storm, we suggest that you consult the NOAA Home Preparation page or for local sandbag information, you can consult the City of Tampa Sandbag page.

VESSEL PREPARATION:
For riding a storm out at sea, consult the NOAA Marine safety page.  To effectively prepare your vessel, look at this Channel 8 Article on preparing your vessel.
